Gender Mainstreaming in Project Management

This free course on gender mainstreaming in project management is designed for staff working in programmes, monitoring and evaluation, finance, partnerships, and civil society organisations.

The course provides an introductory understanding of how gender can be systematically integrated into project and programme cycles. It explores key concepts, principles, and practical approaches to gender mainstreaming across design, planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.

This is the first course in a three-part series on gender, followed by Introduction to Gender Analysis and Gender Equality Marker: A Tool for AKF. This course is available Arabic, English, and Spanish. The course duration is 1.5 hours.

 

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

LO1 Define key gender-related terms

LO2 Describe gender mainstreaming principles and explain why they are important for programming

LO3 Explain how gender mainstreaming contributes to achieving gender equality

LO4 Describe how gender can be integrated into each phase of the project cycle, including proposal development, design, planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation

 

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply gender mainstreaming principles when reviewing project and programme activities
  • Integrate gender considerations into project design, planning, implementation, and reporting processes
  • Use gender-related terminology appropriately in professional and programme contexts
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen gender responsiveness across the project cycle
  • Recognise gaps in gender integration within existing projects and propose appropriate adjustments
  • Support colleagues in applying gender mainstreaming approaches within cross-functional teams
  • Use organisational gender policies and frameworks to guide decision-making in programming
  • Contribute to more gender-responsive monitoring and evaluation processes
