Introduction to Gender Analysis

This course is designed for Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) staff, as well as anyone working in a civil society organisation in either programmes, monitoring and evaluation, or partnerships. It provides practical guidance on conducting gender analysis to ensure policies and projects account for gender dynamics and promote equity. Learners are encouraged to first take the introductory course “Gender Mainstreaming in Project Management,” available on The Learning Hub, before enrolling in the “Introduction to Gender Analysis” course.

Course duration: 1 hour 20 minutes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe ways in which gender influences how policies, programmes, and projects may diversely impact men and women, girls and boys
  • Describe the principles of gender analysis
  • Identify the steps to conduct a gender analysis
  • List quantitative and qualitative information sources that can help staff understand gender norms and disparities in the countries and communities where they implement programmes
  • Identify the key domains necessary to be assessed for a comprehensive gender analysis
