Empowered Anganwadi Workers, Stronger Childhoods: A New Model of Change |

This series of four short videos introduces simple yet essential daily activities that preschool teachers and educators working with children aged three to six can integrate into the routine of an early childhood development centre. The videos serve as practical resources, supporting the consistent implementation of quality early learning practices at scale using simple, low-cost materials. These easy-to-adopt routines can make everyday experiences more engaging and meaningful for young children.

Presented in Hindi with English subtitles, these videos were originally developed for educators working in Anganwadi Centres, India’s government-supported early childhood development centres. The activities presented in the videos are aligned with Aadharshila, India’s Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum.

Learn what each activity involves, why it matters for young children’s development, and how it can be brought to life through the four videos in this series:

  1. Welcome Activity: Start the day with a warm and joyful welcome. See how Anganwadi Workers create a positive beginning to each child’s day through personalised greetings that help children feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
  2. Attendance Activity: A creative approach to taking attendance that transforms a routine task into a learning opportunity. Children not only recognise their peers but also learn more about one another’s interests and preferences, helping build social connections.
  3. Free Play: One of the most enjoyable parts of the day, free play gives children the freedom to explore, create, build, paint, run, laugh, and learn through play. Discover how Anganwadi Workers use locally available, low-cost materials to create enriching play experiences.
  4. SUMAN-K Handwashing Technique: A simple and engaging method that helps children learn proper handwashing practices. Through the SUMAN-K technique, children can easily remember the key steps of effective handwashing and build healthy habits from an early age.

The Aga Khan Foundation has trained Anganwadi Workers across its programme areas to adopt and implement these practices in their centres. This video series was produced as part of the Aga Khan Foundation’s Early Childhood Development Programme in partnership with the Bainum Family Foundation.
