Jabali was born with a grey streak in his hair. Abbah, his father, always said that would make Jabali wise and powerful. Jabali is always interested in puzzles and patterns and has a million and one questions about the world. A creative thinker, he isn’t pure logic or pure heart, but has a great balance of both.
Now a 12-year-old boy, Jabali’s fear was stolen from him when he was younger. Whoever- or whatever- stole it didn’t realise that they made the world’s greatest child detective. By removing his fear, Jabali is now free to implicitly trust his instinct. He is brave, relentless, and focused, but can also be impulsive, jumping right into the action without worrying about the consequences.
Always eager to help, together with his childhood friend Sauti, the beings of Tisa turn to him to solve every mystery, big and small.

Sauti is a 12-year-old girl with an interest in science and discovery. Wide-eyed and shy, she is always lost in her own world. Sauti has always loved music- music and maths are her favourite topics (“And aren’t they really the same thing?” she would say).
She has all these numbers and facts and music at her fingertips and so she thinks she knows everything. Adopted by Bibi when she was a baby and treated by Jabali’s family as one of their own, Sauti still feels an acute loneliness and struggles making connections with other people.
Sauti doesn’t know how, but she has always felt connected with the vibrations in music. Under Bibi’s careful tutelage, she discovered that if she pays close attention to the vibrations, she can connect to other things. She makes instruments from whatever is around her and uses the sound as her magic.
