FAQ

Who is the Learning Hub for?

The Learning Hub is designed for development practitioners and the community members they serve.

Content on The Learning Hub relates to the following development themes: agriculture and food security, civil society strengthening, climate resilience, early childhood development, education, health and nutrition, and work and enterprise. Content related to gender, innovation, and monitoring and evaluation is also accessible.

Do I or my organisation have to pay to take courses, watch instructional videos and webinars and download documents?

No. All content available through The Learning Hub is provided free of charge.

What is the difference between courses, instructional videos, and webinars?

The Learning Hub makes a variety of learning materials available to practitioners. Courses, instructional videos, and recorded webinars are designed for asynchronous virtual learning.

Courses are designed to achieve learning objectives and consist of multiple short video-lessons and quizzes, exercises, and reference materials. Learners taking a course follow a learning path.

Instructional videos are standalone video-lessons that don’t follow a particular learning path.

The recorded webinars have been edited for asynchronous learning. Live webinars are advertised through The Learning Hub for synchronous learning and then posted as recordings for asynchronous learning.

How long is the typical course, instructional video and webinar?

The length of courses varies depending on the learning objectives. The average length of a course is about two hours but there is a lot of variation. Instructional videos are typically just a few minutes long. Recorded webinars can be completed in less than one hour.

Can I enrol in more than one course, instructional video or webinar at a time?

Yes. Learners can use multiple learning opportunities simultaneously.

Only courses require enrolment through a learner registration, after which the learner account will help track learner progress in the courses.

We recommended that when taking a course you complete the video lessons in order. Some courses are designed to be taken progressively. For example, you will want to complete the “introduction” course followed by the “intermediate” course. In these instances, the course description indicates the order.

Are courses accredited? Will I receive a certificate upon completion?

No. The Aga Khan Foundation does not provide accreditation or certificates for asynchronous courses.

Who developed the courses, instructional videos, documents and webinars?

The Aga Khan Foundation leads the development, production, and curation of learning materials provided on The Learning Hub with external subject matter experts supporting the development of some content. Content development partners, including other agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network, are credited where applicable.

Blended learning

For the blended learning courses, how can I register for the in-person session?

If a designated facilitator/administrator has asked that you register for a course that incorporates a synchronous in-person or virtual session, then the facilitator/administrator will contact you with details for attending the live portion.

For the blended learning courses, is the in-person session required?

Blended learning courses are designed so that the full benefit and achievement of the learning objectives is obtained by completing the asynchronous remote and in-person sessions. However, we recognise that some learners may find it challenging to complete both and therefore if the course is not labelled “Restricted Access”, you will not be prevented from enrolling in the asynchronous portion only.

Where can I find the Facilitator Guide for blended learning courses?

Facilitator Guides exist for blended learning courses – those that incorporate an in-person or remote synchronous session. Where guides do exist, they are accessible after enrolling in the course by clicking on the “Facilitator Guide” button.

How can I become a facilitator of an in-person session associated with a blended learning course?

Please contact thelearninghub@akdn.org if you are interested in learning more about becoming a facilitator of an in-person session for a blended learning course.

Can I charge for delivering the Aga Khan Foundation’s blended learning courses?

AKF’s blended learning courses are registered under the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial No-Derivatives (CC BY-NC-ND) licence. This means that they are available free of charge and that no profit can made from delivering them.

That said, organisations that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AKF to deliver AKF’s blended learning courses may charge a reasonable market rate for course delivery in order to ensure the sustainability of their course offering.
