Roof rainwater harvesting is the collection, conveyance, and storage of rainfall captured directly from building rooftops. These storage systems can be constructed either above ground which is common across Africa, or underground which is practiced in India and Syria. When properly designed, these systems provide a reliable and decentralised water source for domestic, institutional, and small-scale agricultural use.
This short guide explains the seven steps needed to set up and maintain a roof rainwater harvesting system.
