
Activating Values: Leadership and Learning Report
Activating Values: Leadership and Learning (previously Values based Education) is a transformative experience designed to enable educators and school leadership to self-reflect, explore and recognize personal biases. It encourages participants to consider how these factors influence their ability to engage positively with people from diverse backgrounds, build meaningful relationships with children, peers, and parents, and model positive values within their schools and communities.
This approach has had a significant impact on teachers’ perceptions of their roles leading to more inclusive, gender responsive, and child-centred practices. Teachers have reported shifts in their daily classroom interactions, fostering more engaging learning environments that support children’s holistic development. As a result, children increasingly view their teachers as approachable and feel more comfortable sharing personal challenges. Activating Values has been implemented in nearly 1000 schools across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. It has also been adapted for civil society leaders and organisations, extending its transformative potential beyond classrooms to promote deeper impact within communities and society at large.
