As the climate crisis intensifies, the need for designing, implementing, and monitoring projects for environmental sustainability becomes increasingly important. Development work must consider both the positive and negative impacts of activities on the environment, and the environment’s impacts on projects.
Environment and climate change is a core strategic priority and cross-cutting theme for the Aga Khan Development Network. As part of this commitment, the Aga Khan Foundation developed the Policy for Environmental Sustainability (PES), a tool used to assess these environment-development linkages in its programming. This video course on implementing the PES provides information on how to use the policy to consider sustainability throughout the project cycle, as well as case studies on how the PES has been applied.
While the course is designed for the AKDN and its partner organisations, other development practitioners looking to embed environmental sustainability into their work may also find it useful.
