Policy and Institutions in Adaptation to Climate Change – Case study on responding to water stress in Chitral, Pakistan
This case study in English was created for policy analysts, researchers, and practitioners engaged in climate resilience and water resource governance.
By reviewing this study, you will be able to:
- Examine how traditional and formal water governance systems in Chitral, Pakistan respond to climate-induced water challenges
- Analyze the influence of government policies and external interventions on local water management and adaptive capacity

This case study was produced by ICIMOD and the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) as part of the Sida-supported regional project “Too Much and Too Little Water” (2008–2010) in Pakistan, alongside related studies conducted in China, India, and Nepal.
