Reading from a young age is fundamental preparation for a student’s later progress through the formal education process.
The Aga Khan Foundation is undertaking work with the formal education system in India to address the teaching of reading. It also works with families and communities to ensure that children have more access to books and enjoyable reading opportunities.
Reading for Children is a simple yet powerful concept, designed to meet the needs of children and families who otherwise may have little or no opportunities to engage in reading.
These documents, including the Facilitator Manual and participant materials, aim to communicate the Reading for Children concept to a wider group of parents or caregivers, NGOs, programme designers and implementers, as a replicable model.
