Maria and the Tin Can Telephone is a children’s book developed to address issues around social isolation in an age-appropriate way.
The book was written to enable parents, caregivers, teachers, and children to engage with this issue.
The story is about three adventurous friends who find their world turned upside down as COVID-19 takes hold in Kenya. Suddenly confined to their homes, they feel alone and miss each other. Maria has an idea and builds a tin can phone with her mother. Giving one to each of her friends they can now talk all day. Soon children across Kenya start building their own tin can phones to stay connected.
